![]() #SMALLEST FULL FRAME CAMERAS FULL#We'll bring you our full review very soon. The Sigma FP L will be available to buy in April for $2,499 / £1,999 (around AU$3,600), while the new EVF-11 accessory will cost $699 / £599 (around AU$1,080. Because the FP L has identical dimensions to its predecessor, you can also use all of Sigma's existing accessories with the new camera. This has a 3.68-million dot resolution, tilts upwards by 90-degrees and plugs into the HDMI port and is charged via the USB C port. And, unlike its predecessor’s, that sensor now captures 47.3-megapixel shots. It also compensates for its lack of built-in features with a range of accessories –including a new side-mounted EVF-11 viewfinder. Aside from Sony’s older RX1R and RX1R II, it’s the only fixed lens compact camera that has a full-frame sensor. You can also output ProRes Raw or Blackmagic Raw video to an external monitor, making the FP L impressively for such a small camera. This means it's a highly compact setup that offers lots of flexibility for those who like to color grade their footage afterward. While the Sigma FP L is a more well-rounded camera for hybrid shooters, thanks to those resolution and autofocus boosts, it is still primarily a video-oriented camera, thanks to that ability to shoot raw video (in Cinema DNG format) internally. The reason why the FP L is so small is that it doesn't have a built-in viewfinder, hot shoe, grip, in-body image stabilization or even a mechanical shutter, instead relying on its electronic shutter. However, despite its compact size, it is still able to pack in a high-performance IBIS and a 102MP imaging sensor that is almost twice the physical size of a typical full-frame sensor. Knowing Sigma, we expect the Fp will be competitively priced, especially if Sigma does intend this to be a camera suitable for all walks of photographers. So who exactly is the Sigma FP L aimed at? If you like your cameras to be fully-featured out of the box, then it's probably not for you. deep (15cm x 10.4cm x 8.7cm), GFX100S’ compact body is comparable in size to many full-frame cameras. Sigma did not elaborate on this in the press release, and we’re not sure if this is traditional contrast detection or a more advanced system like Panasonic’s Depth from Defocus (we would certainly hope for the latter).Īlso unknown at this time are the price and availability. Electronic shutters can cause distortion when photographing high-speed subjects, but we’ll have to wait to see how well the Fp performs here.Īutofocus looks to be contrast-detection only but does include face and eye-detection and subject tracking. It can also shoot up to 18 frames per second, although maximum shutter speed is just 1/8,000 second, similar to high-end mechanical shutters. But Sigma also says the electronic shutter is better for still photography as it means zero shutter shock and more reliable performance over time. The camera uses a fully electronic shutter with no mechanical shutter to speak of, which again would seem to emphasize its role as a cinema camera. The boxy design also makes it a good fit for video shoulder rigs, drones, or other mounting solutions. #SMALLEST FULL FRAME CAMERAS PROFESSIONAL#However, it looks to be built more for the professional filmmaker than still photographer and includes some video-specific options like 12-bit RAW output over USB and even a “teal and orange” color profile for achieving that overused cinema color palette in camera. Sigma says the Fp is suitable for all manner of photographers, from novices to professionals, and presents it as equal parts still and cinema camera. By adopting a traditional Bayer sensor, the Fp should be a more approachable machine. This delivered superior sharpness and color accuracy in the right conditions, but the sensor was slow and prone to noise. Foveon sensors use stacked photodiodes in three layers, one for each color channel (red, green, and blue). Notably, the sensor is a standard Bayer type, which could signal that Sigma is finally moving away from the Foveon chips it relied on previously, found in cameras like the SD Quattro H. It is built around the Leica L mount (also used by Panasonic in the S1 and S1R cameras) and uses a 24-megapixel sensor. Weighing in at a hair over 13 ounces and measuring 4.4 x 2.7 x 1.8 inches, the Fp is officially the smallest and lightest full-frame interchangeable lens camera in the world. It was nice knowing you, Canon EOS RP, but there is a new lightweight full-frame champ in town: The Sigma Fp. ![]()
